Who We Are
Who We Are
On November 18, 2016 Central Synagogue of Nassau County and Reconstructionist Congregation Beth Emeth officially consolidated, following approval from The New York State Supreme Court.
On May 17th, 2016 both congregations voted overwhelmingly in favor of this consolidation. The entity is now known as Central Synagogue – Beth Emeth and continues a partnership that has developed since Beth Emeth moved from their Hewlett location into Central’s building at 430 DeMott Avenue in Rockville Centre in July of 2012. Central Synagogue – Beth Emeth (CSBE) provides innovative religious, spiritual and cultural programming designed for congregants and community alike. CSBE , under the spritual direction of Rabbi Michael G. Cohen, continues to reach out to and serve participants from across, Nassau, Suffolk, Queens, Brooklyn and beyond.
Central Synagogue of Nassau County has been serving the South Shore of Long Island for eighty years and has established an illustrious record. Reconstructionist Congregation Beth Emeth was established in 1994 as the only Reconstructionist Synagogue on the South Shore of Long. Island. We are proud of the leadership role we have played in the religious and civic life of Rockville Centre and the surrounding community. Many of our members have distinguished themselves in leadership in the local community as well as in the national institutions of Reform and Reconstructionist Judaism and the State of Israel.
Our synagogue provides a Jewish education for our children from pre-school through high school. We offer a varied and intellectually stimulating continuing education program for our adult congregants. Our Shabbat, festivals, and High Holy Days services connect us to God, our history, and each other. We put our religious values into practice in our community, state, nation, and world through our Social. Action program and through our comprehensive Caring Community program. Our Sisterhood, Young Families and youth programs provide an opportunity for all congregants to participate in the life of the community and help ensure its future. The synagogue serves as our community center, with its beautiful sanctuary, school building, meeting rooms, and library.
We are proud of our Synagogue which we have made “central” to the lives of our members. It is an enduring home of the Jewish spirit. We welcome those who would join us and be counted among us. For additional information please call our Executive Director, Joy Gluzman, at (516) 766-4300.
